NBP Head Expects This Year’s Budget Deficit Much Lower Than Last Year’s

Poland's 2010 budget deficit should be much lower than in 2009, central bank NBP president Marek Belka told broadcaster TVN in late Tuesday interview.

The economy has rebounded and the budget was based on cautious assumptions, he justified.

According to Belka, it raises concerns, because it means the deficit is of structural nature and Poland will not be able to outgrow it.

Belka stressed that he hoped for a lower public finance deficit in 2011 than 5.5% of the GDP declared by the government. In his view, the government should cut some spending.
