WSE gaining popularity among central-eastern European firms

23 foreign firms currently trade on the Warsaw bourse, with further companies from the region interested in floating on the exchange.

The latest company expected to make its debut in Warsaw is the Latvian Olainfarm.

The pharmacuetical concern, which has a capitalisation of 100 million zloty (24.6 million euro) is the first company from the Baltic state to consider trading solely on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE).

Currently 23 companies trade on the WSE, amounting to a joint capitilisation of 290 million zloty, thanks to such firms as the Italian UniCredit, CEZ and Hungarian MOL.

Six firms from Bulgaria and the Ukraine are considering floating their stock in Warsaw by the end of 2010, with further talks being held with companies in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Romania.
