Portugal, June 22 - Poland's leading retailer, Biedronka, a unit of Jeronimo Martins', expects to boost its share of the grocery market in Poland by 1.5 percentage points in 2010, Biedronka's chief commercial officer said on Tuesday.
The increase, to a market share of 11.5 percent in 2010, will be boosted by the opening of 100 new stores this year, bringing the total to 1,600, Biedronka CCO Tomas Waligorski told a conference.
"Our market share in 2009 was estimated at around 10 percent and our target in 2010 is to reach 11.5 percent," he said.
Biedronka's sales, which represent 56 percent of Jeronimo's total, rose 36.7 percent to 1 billion euros in the first quarter of this year compared with the same period of 2009.
Biedronka competes against global heavyweights in the Polish market such as Carrefour and Tesco.
