Poland's biggest insurance company intends to reduce employment by 2,316 jobs this year as part of the restructuring effort, the firm announced in press materials ahead of a news conference.
"Additionally we anticipate that restructuring will, in varying degrees, affect around 5,200 people employed in group units," the materials read. "For the bulk of employees, i.e. around 2,300 people, this will limit to changes resulting from a new form or name of the units employing them."
On February 2 PZU trade unions wrote to PM Donald Tusk that the firm planned to dismiss up to 4.5k employees within the next three years, including some 2k lay-offs in 2010.
The entire PZU group currently employs around 15k people.
